CHANDIGARH: Seven persons have been booked by Sirsa police for trying to kill a 19-year-old girl from Bani village in Sirsa district. They include the girl’s father, grandfather, a cousin and four others. Now in the Nari Niketan at Karnal, the victim, Poonam, had on September 18 last year left home on the pretext of taking some exam and married her lover.
But on September 27 her parents got to know about it and dragged her home by force.
She was shifted to her relative's house in a Dhotad village where family members tried unsuccessfully for three months to dissuade her from continuing her relationship with Mukhram. Their patience finally wore out on Thursday and they threw her into the swirling canal. But she swam to safety and came out near Tibbi, on the Rajasthan border and approached the police. All the accused are absconding.
